Aimee
Major Steinberger may be one of the tallest people ever to travel
to Japan and spend a day at one of the studios where you can dress as a
maiko or geisha. She's written - and drawn - an account of this
experience and others in the book "Japan Ai: A Tall Girl's Adventures
in Japan." The book is being released
through Amazon, and an online preview of her maiko
experience is available. It wasn't the first time she's appeared in
costume, since she's been cosplaying with like-minded friends for year
- but her creativity goes further. Like many people this site has
encountered over the last ten years, Aimee is both a costumer and an
artist. She's worked on the Futurama and Simpsons TV series, and has
animated for Disney and Warner Bros. She's a fan of the exquisite
ball-jointed dolls made in Japan, writing for Haute Doll
magazine. And she's also a fan of the famed all-female Takarazuka
musical theater troupe, being one of the Americans who has been lucky
enough to travel to Japan and visit that shrine to intense
theatrical
beauty.
