Rogue and Flexei

Anime
Convention Personalities of the Week - November 25, 2007
There are fewer people in all of
West Virginia than in most of the metropolitan areas that hold anime
conventions. Once, anime fandom was limited to big cities, but it's
spread to the point that people in areas with populations large and
small enjoy anime and cosplay. That's the case with Rogue and Flexei,
who come from that small state known more for its hills, coal mines and
college football teams than for anime fans. Both of the Turners were
into comics fandom
from an early age, and they grew to embrace anime fandom when they
discovered the unique art from Japan. Flexei is a big
Macross fan, and Rogue
loves Jet Set Radio - which explains why some of their early
costumes come from those works. Their goal is to recreate their
favorite characters as well as possible without spending too much
money; you've probably seen one of them with their arms full of stuff
as they leave a West Virginia hardware store. Most anime conventions
are outside of West Virginia so they have to travel to exotic places
such as Maryland and Michigan, but they've found that there are people
who wait for each new outfit. (Actually, there is a cosplay link to
West Virginia: the movie based on the Silent Hill game, often a source
of characters and monsters for costumers, is set in a fictional part of
that state.)
