Japanese Cosplayers - Anime Convention Personalities of the Week - Nov. 29, 1999 Japanese costumers
have traveled to the U.S. for a few anime conventions in recent years,
but none had the impact of the troupe who attended Anime Expo in the summer
of 1999. Barbie Tukino, Kaie Tada, Nomi, Luke and Michiru delighted fans
with their beauty and grace. They amazed people with the quality of their
costumes. They caused more pictures to be taken than any other group at
the convention. Those who saw the Japanese group in Anime Expo's halls
thought they had seen everything that they had to offer in costumes - but
their most impressive presentation came at the masquerade, where they showed
off a more astounding collection of costumes. Then, the next day, these
young women showed themselves, down inside, to be just like American anime
fans. They're people with real lives and jobs who steal as much time as
they can to devote themselves to their special brand of fandom. |
