Convention Personality of the Week - December 2, 2007

"May I nominate one Darryl "Derrick Kwon" Hwang? I was pretty surprised
that he hadn't been one already, since he's been actively involved in
the convention scene since 1997. With a lot of us con-goers becoming
more jaded the more cons we go to, he's always retained his enthusiasm
and has put so much energy into giving back to these events we all
love. He's been actively involved in more ways than I can even list,
whether it's putting on an hilarious skit, being one of the best MC
masquerades I've seen, helping out friends backstage with
props/costumes, helping coordinate masquerades, and above all,
volunteering himself to help out wherever a hand is needed, regardless
of how much work it would be - all in good cheer! I can't think of many
people who have been around since 1997 and still put in the time,
energy, and love to make masquerades and conventions enjoyable for us.
He's welcomed in a whole new generation of convention goers with his
help backstage, on stage, and behind the scenes, and even to a seasoned
masquerade veteran, he is a welcome sight backstage bringing order to
chaos and turning a potentially nerve-wracking, scary event into a
positive experience for all. All of us whom he's helped out owe him so
much, so I was hoping that nominating him would pay him back even the
slightest bit of the thanks we owe him."
