This
site got an E-mail message one day, saying: "Not trying to be overly forward
or anything, but have you ever given thought to Lisa Honeychan being featured?
I mean she IS one of the pioneers of American cosplay from back in 1990.
She's just amazing... her craziness and ideas give me a lot of inspiration,
and hehe, she's the only Cutey Honey *wink*." Since the person who wrote
the message has been known to carry a whip to conventions, we had to go
along. While Lisa Honeychan isn't the only person to dress in the red and
blue battle suit created by Go Nagai, she's among the most daring costumers
to play the role. In fact, there was one convention in 2001 where fans
were wagering if she would...uh, if the outfit would, well, fail. At Anime
Expo in 2001, you didn't need to understand Japanese to know that a group
of cosplayers from that country were amazed by how Lisa filled the Honey
outfit. But there was more to Lisa at that event than Honey; she must have
worn costumes from a half-dozen series at the California convention, including
a corseted Moogle that no one had seen before. |
