John Swasey -
Anime
Convention Personality of the Week - December 10, 2006
John Swasey just wanted to be a
comedian, but anime stepped up and got him. That's happened to any
number of performers in the Houston area, where ADV Films' need for new
talent has led to a search for competent, enthusiastic actors who want
to be cartoon characters on the side. Thank Jason Lee for his second
life, since Jason suggested that Swasey head from the Comedy Workshop
to an ADV audition. Swasey eventually got a role, and has been so good
at dub acting that he's been promoted to the director's chair in series
such as the robot-fighting Jinki: Extend. Swasey keeps acting, though.
He has the kind of voice that's gotten him the big role of Captain
Bruno J. Global in ADV's redub of Superdimensional Fortress Macross.
He's among the singing cast of thousands in the dub of Nerima Daikon
Brothers. He's joined the group of Houston performers who commute to
Fort Worth to appear in Funimation dubs, playing Karl Haushofer in the
Fullmetal Alchemist movie. And look closely in some reruns of Walker,
Texas Ranger, and you might see him.
