Convention Personalities of the Week - December 16, 2007
Those handsome guys hanging out
at the sports bar in Arlington, Virginia weren't there for the ball
games on the big TV sets. While the New England Patriots were beating
the Buffalo Bills on the monitor above them, these five were having a
great time hanging out with the staff of the Anime USA convention and
taking pictures of everyone in the room. The five members of Back-On -
Kenji03, Teeda, Gori, Shu and Icchan - have had a fast-rising career
since they formed the band in 2002. One of the many groups represented
by Avex Trak, they've risen from clubs to perform themes for anime
series including the skater show Air Gear, the otherworldly drama
Murder Princess and the football-themed Eyeshield. Back-On has appeared
as musical guests at the Anime Matsuri and Anime USA conventions, but
to watch them you would get the impression that, instead of the band
being brought to the conventions to entertain the fans, the conventions
were staged to entertain the band. When the group showed up at the
afterparty in Virginia, they stayed to themselves for only a few
minutes before mixing with the convention staff - no language barrier
stopped these guys who were determined to have a good time with people
they barely knew.
